Answer:

193.5
m^(2)

Explanation:

This shape is called a compound shape. Essentially, it is many smaller shapes put together to form one big one. To calculate the area of a compound shape, you must split it into the said smaller shapes.

In this particular question, the only 2 shapes involved are squares (or rectangles, but they require the same formula) and triangles. Simply calculate the area of these shapes, and add them all up. I would draw lines to separate each shape.

Formulas:

area of square = b x h

area of triangle = (b x h) / 2

So:

it is the area of all the triangles + area of the rectangles

= 1/2 × 12 × 20 + 1/2 × 7 × 7 + 5 × 8 + 3 × 3

= 193.5

(You can just do this bit on a calculator, I have attached an image)

Hope this helps! Good luck. Have a lovely day/night!

Answer:

193.5 mi²

Formula's:

Area of triangle:

1/2 × base × height

Area of rectangle:

length × width

Area of the figure:

area of triangle's + area of rectangle

= 1/2 × 12 × 20 + 1/2 × 7 × 7 + 5 × 8 + 3 × 3

= 120 + 24.5 + 40 + 9

= 193.5
