so you are just going to replace x with the number of years the subscription is renewed and then you'll get the answer y which will be the total cost in dollars.

example:

Y total cost in dollars: ? ? ?

y = 6 × X + 17

now replace x with the number of years renewed.

y=6×6+17

y=53 dollars

same goes with the other ones

y=6×7+17

y=59 dollars

If it was the other way around where you knew the cost but not the year. then you would replace the y with the cost and solve the equation.

example:

X number of years renewed: ? ? ?

Y total cost in dollars: $53 $59 $65

y= 6×X+17

53=6×X+17

-17 -17

36=6×X

÷6 ÷6

6=X
