I will go through all my steps but this is (fairly) hard to explain.

In a nutshell, to calculate the volume of a shape like this we can split it up into various other shapes that we can calculate the volume for.

For example, I will do the small step at the bottom, excluding the main chunk.

10 subtract 4 is 6

6 multiplied by 5 multiplied by 8 is 240

Now I can do the rest of the shape:

12 subtract 5 is 7

7 multiplied by 10 multiplied by 8 is 560

Now we add our two separate volumes together

240 plus 560 is 800

800cm cubed is our volume.

Cut the prism to two cuboid.

v=whl

= 7×10×8

= 560

v=5×6×8

=240

total = 800 cubic centimetre (cm³)
