You are renting a surfboard for the day. The surfboard rental fee is $25 with an additional charge of $7 per hour. You have at most $60 you can spend on surfing. How many hours can you rent the surfboard? Define the variable, write and solve an inequality, and answer the question.

Initial fee: $25

Per hour fee: $7

Your budget: $60

x = # of hours you can rent the surfboard

$25 + $7x ≤ $60

Subtract $25 from both sides.

$7x ≤ $35

Divide both sides by $7

x ≤ 5

You can rent the surfboard for less than or equal to 5 hours.
