A football stadium holds 17,700 seats. The lower level has 300 seats less than 4 times the number of seats in the upper level. The middle level has 500 more seats than twice the number of seats in the upper level. Let x represent the seats in the upper level. 7x+200=17,700 because if you set up an equation for each level, the upper level is just x, the middle level is 2x=500, and the lover level is 4x- 300. if you add all 3 equations together and set it equal to 17,700, it equals 7x+200=17,700

When you write an equation for the middle and lower row you can add them together to get 6x+200=1700 but you still must include the upper row so you add x which results in c. If you solve you get x=2500 and if you plug that back into you equations for the lower and middle rows and then add the upper row you get 17700.
