Why do cells have a plasma membrane?

to distinguish plants from animals

to separate the inside of the cell from its environment

Answer: to separate the inside of the cell from its environment

If cells did not have a plasma membrane, they would die. The parts/organs that keep them alive will leak out everywhere. Since cells are basic building blocks for humans, if they died, we would die.
