The first of three numbers is one-third the value of second number. The second number is 5 less than the third number. If twice the third number is 5 less than the second number, which of the following equations could be used to find the value of the first number, if the first number is represented by x?

2(3x+5)=3x-2 , required equation.

Explanation:

As per given we have,

First number =
\frac13 of second number. (i)

Second number = Third number - 5 (ii)

2 (third number)= Second number - 5 (iii)

Put x= first number in (i).

so,
x=\frac13 of second number.

⇒ second number =
3* x=3x

From (ii)


3x= Third number - 5

⇒ Third number =
3x+5

From (iii)


2(3x+5)=3x-2 , required equation.
