What were the origins of the Persian Empire?

550-330 BCE, or First Persian Empire, was founded in the 6th century BCE by Cyrus the Great, in Western and Central Asia. The dynasty drew its name from Achaemenes, who, from 705-675 BCE, ruled Persis, which was land bounded on the west by the Tigris River and on the south by the Persian Gulf.

The Persian Empire was started by semi-nomadic tribes and they raised sheep, goats, and cattle on the Iranian plateu. One of these leaders was Cyrus the Great and he began to defeat kingdoms nearby such as Media, Lydia, and Babylon and joined them under his rule.
