Handwashing is a short amount of time using regular soap just washing your hands. Surgical handwashing has a certain antibacterial soap that they use normally for a longer amount of time mostly up to 5 to 10 minutes just because they need to make sure that their hands are safe to put inside patients bodies even with gloves. Hope this helps:)
