Helen`s family didn`t have faith that Helen will ever live as an average person, and on the contrary, she did so much more than that. The main reason for the beginning of it was having Annie beside her and Annie`s unbreakable will to really teach this little girl basic stuff about life and everything beyond that.

In the given excerpt, Annie gives us an impression of a person who has strict rules about her efficiency. Helen`s family might be satisfied with the fact that Annie taught Helen to clean herself, dress, etc, but Annie knows that is not what is really important for a person to grow. She wants to open the doors of the whole world of knowledge for Helen, not just basics.
