x = 7 x= -2

Explanation:

x^2 -5x -14 =0

What 2 numbers multiply to -14 and add to -5

-7*2 = -15

-7 +2 = -5

(x-7) (x+2) =0

Using the zero product property

x-7 =0 x+2 = 0

x = 7 x= -2
