Answer:

Desert A: 400,000

Desert B: 3,600,000

Explanation:

If desert b is 9 times bigger than desert a, we can classify desert b as the variable 9a. (To symbolize a * 9)

9a + a = 4,000,000

10a = 4,000,000

Divide 4 million by 10, and we get the area of desert a.

a = 400,000

Desert A has an area of 400,000.

We know Desert b is 9 times desert A, so we can just multiply the area of Desert A by 9 and we get Desert B's area.

400,000 * 9 = 3,600,000

Desert b has an area of 3,600,000.
