The given equations are;
2x-y=8......(i)
3x+y=17......(ii)
Adding equation (i) and (ii), we get
5x=25 ( as +y and -y is canceled out during addition)
Hence x=5
Now
Substituting the value of x in equation (i)
2x5-y=8
10-y=8
Hence y=2
