The length of a rectangle is 8 ft longer than twice the width. If the perimeter is 64 ft, find the length and width of the rectangle.

Length: 24 feet

Width: 8 feet

Explanation:

ok so first let the width be x. so if the width is x then the length would be 2x+8. If the perimeter is 64 you would divide it by two because it goes all the way around the rectangle. so then you have 32=(2x+8)+x. then we solve for x.

32=(2x+8)+x

32=3x+8

-8 -8

------------------

24=3x

8=x

now you have x=8 so that is the width. then you have the length so then you fill x in 2*8+8 is the length and your length would be 24.
