Why are loyalists and patriots important to learn ??

Loyalists wanted the British to continue ruling the colonies and enforcing the rules and laws of Britain. The loyalists were ‘loyal’ to Britain. The patriots knew there was a better way to rule a nation than a monarchy and tyranny. They didn’t want someone to tell them what to do, a smaller government, and give the individual states more power.

Patriots wanted the Thirteen colonies to gain independence from Britain and to create their own laws to form the United States of America and patriots wanted freedom from British bc they weren’t treated well. loyalists, some of them were African American slaves and British promised to free the slaves from patriots masters and they knew that British trade was important to the economy and loyalist lost their homes and businesses due to patriots attacks and left the colonies to head back to Britain
