Part A

I'm assuming you want the area of a circle with radius 17 yards.

We'll use the formula below

A = pi*r^2

A = (22/7)*17^2

A = (22*17^2)/7

A = 6358/7

A = 908 2/7

The sprinkler covers an area of about 908 2/7 square yards.

You'll type 908 in the left-most box

Then for the other two boxes, you'll have 2 up top and 7 down below to represent the fraction 2/7

The number 908 2/7 is a mixed number.

You mentioned that the radius reduces to 11 yards here. We'll use the same formula as above and pi = 22/7 approximately

A = pi*r^2

A = (22/7)*11^2

A = (22*11^2)/7

A = 2662/7

A = 380 2/7

This value is also a mixed number

380 is the value in the left most box (it's the whole part)
