Explanation:

Given the 2 equations

y = - 2x + 4 → (1)

y = 6x + 12 → (2)

Substitute y = 6x + 12 into (1)

6x + 12 = - 2x + 4 ( add 2x to both sides )

8x + 12 = 4 ( subtract 12 from both sides )

8x = - 8 ( divide both sides by 8 )

x = - 1

Substitute x = - 1 into either of the 2 equations and solve for y

Substituting into (2)

y = 6(- 1) + 12 = - 6 + 12 = 6

Solution is (- 1, 6 )
