Kara and James both like to mix a little bit of milk with their eggs when they make scrambled eggs. Kara mixes ¾ of a tablespoon of milk with one egg. James mixes 1 ¼ tablespoons milk with two eggs. Is there a proportional relationship between Kara and James’ milk and egg amounts?

Answer:

"No, there is not a proportional relationship."

Explanation:

"A proportional relationship is when 2 amounts have the same ratios.

The easiest way to see this is to put them into decimal form.

3/4 is equal to 0.75 (You can find this by dividing 3 and 4 in the calculator)

1 1/4 is equal to 1.25

Kara mixes every 0.75 with 1 egg.

James mixes every 1.25 tablespoons with 2 eggs.

Divide 1.25 by 2 to find out how many tablespoons that James mixes with 1 egg.

1.25 tablespoons /2 = 0.625

2 eggs /2 = 1 egg

Therefore, James mixes 0.625 tablespoons of milk with 1 egg.

They do not mix the same amount of tablespoons of milk for ever ONE egg, meaning that they are not proportional."
