Let's split this into pieces. From bottom left to top right, going gradually counter-clockwise, we'll note the corners from A to H, as in image 1.


To make things simpler, we will make a line from G into ED, noting the new intersected dot with I, then do the same from C to FE. We note the new dot with J, then note the intersection between CJ and GI with O as in image 2.

Now, having the new images in our eyes made our job way easier. We can go ahead and calculate the area of the new place we made (ABOI) which is AB*AH = 8 * 8.5 = 68 sq. ft

Moving further on to GIEF, we can see from the starting image that <GFE is a 90 degree angle. We can use that to consider GIEF a parallelogram, then we get that GF = IE = 1 ft, respectively FE = GI = 6 ft. The area of GIEF is 6*1 = 6 square feet.

Now with that out of our way, we have CDIO*, where CD = 1.5 ft. and DI = 4 ft. Knowing that <CDI* is a 90 degree angle from the starting image, we can do an analogue to GIEF and get CD=IO* and DI=CO*, 1.5, respectively 4 ft*. The area of CDIO* is 1.5*4 = 6 square feet*.

ABCDEFGH is formed out of ABOI, GIEF and CDEJ. In order to get the area in square feet that needs to be covered, we need to sum up the three rectangles' areas, which is 68+6+6 = 80* square feet.

*Had to edit because CDEF and GIEF were overlapping quite obviously

Answer is :98

Work : multiply 6 x 5 = 30
Multiply 8 x 8.5 = 68
68 + 30 = 98
