Abiotic factors are non-living factors such as temperature, light, water, humidity, acidity, etc.

They strongly impact the ability of organisms to grow and successfully reproduce, and therefore affect the diversity of organisms in any given area.

If the temperature, light, and water availability (for example) are optimal, then species of plants will be able to grow successfully. This increases their populatuion size. Not only that, but it also provides a greater food supply for the animals that eat the plants, so their population will also grow.
