Your goal is to have x by itself so
3x + 7 = -8
Subtract 7 by both side leave you with
3x = -15
Then you divide 3 both side leave you with
X = -5
The answer is x = -5
Hope this help:)

Answer: x=-5
First, subtract 7 from both sides.
That equals -15.
Then, you have “3x=-15”
All you do TJEM is divide -15 from 3x, which equals -5
