2x+12 = 18 2x+12 = -18

Subtract 12 from each side

2x+12-12 = 18-12 2x+12-12 = -18-12

2x = 6 2x = -30

Divide by 2

2x/2 = 6/2 2x/2 = -30/2

x = 3 x = -15
