A chef used 1⁄4 of a bag of potatoes to make 4 gallons of stew. If he wanted to make 6 gallons of stew, how many bags of potatoes would he need?

Explanation:

So 1/4 of a bag of potatoes holds 4 gallons of stew. So half that. 1/8 of a bag holds 2 gallons of stew. 1/4+ 1/8 = 3/8 of a bag. 2+ 4 = 6 gallons of stew. So he would need 3/8of a bag, or one bag (if you can't buy 3/8 of a bag) .
