P = 2l + 2w

A rectangle has a width of x and a length of
x + 2. The perimeter is 20 inches. Find the value of the width and the length of the rectangle.

Answer:

width= 4, length= 6

Explanation:

use perimeter formula and substitute values

so formula becomes:

20= 2(x+2) + 2(x)

expand the brackets and that gives us

20= 2x+4 +2x

so

16=4x

x= 4

so width is x which is 4

and length is x+2 which is 6
