Joey’s parents told him that for every 3 hours of chores he completes, they would give him $11for his allowance. His friend Sarah’s parents told her that she would earn $2 for every 30 minutes of chores completed. If both kids spend the same amount of time on their chores, which person gets more money for their allowance? How do you know?

150 ÷ 20 = 7.5 minutes per 1 mile

7.5 x 6 = 45 minutes

7.5 + 7.5 = 15 minutes or 2 miles in 15

60 ÷ 7.5 = 8 mph

mpm = 7.5

90 ÷ 5 = $18 per hour

18 x 8 = $144

18 x 3 = 54 (close to $60)

Answer: (a) Sarah (b) 45 minutes (c) 2 miles (d) 8 miles per hour

(e) 7.5 minutes per mile (f) $144 (g) 3 1/3 hours

Explanation:

\text{Joey:}\quad (\$11)/(3\ hours)\\\\\\\text{Sarah:}\quad (\$2)/((1)/(2)\ hour)* (6)/(6)=(\$12)/(3\ hours)

When comparing the same number of hours, Sarah earns $12, Joey earns $11.

***************************************************************************************************

(20\ miles)/(150\ minutes)=(6\ miles)/(x)

Cross Multiply: 20(x) = 150(6)

Divide by 20: x = 900/20

Simplify: x = 45 minutes

***************************************************************************************************

(20\ miles)/(150\ minutes)=(x)/(15\ minutes)

Cross Multiply: 20(15) = 150(x)

Divide by 150: 300/150 = x

Simplify: 2 miles = x

***************************************************************************************************

Use conversion: 60 minutes = 1 hour

(20\ miles)/(150\ minutes)* (60\ minutes)/(1\ hour)=\quad (1200\ miles)/(150\ hour)\quad =\large\boxed{(8\ miles)/(1\ hour)}

***************************************************************************************************

(150\ minutes)/(20\ miles)/ (20)/(20)=\quad \large\boxed{(7.5\ minutes)/(1\ mile)}

***************************************************************************************************

(\$90)/(5\ hours)=(x)/(8\ hours)

Cross Multiply: 5(x) = 90(8)

Divide by 5: x = 720/5

Simplify: x = $144

***************************************************************************************************

(\$90)/(5\ hours)=(\$60)/(x)

Cross Multiply: 5(60) = 90(x)

Divide by 90: 300/90 = x

Simplify: 3 1/3 hours = x
