Answer:

a=3

Explanation:

p(x)=x^2-x-6 and f(x)=x^2+3x-18

they have a common factor x=a

so, when they are devided by x-a leave 0 as the remainder ( by remainder theorem)

p(a) =0

f(a)=0

SO, p(a) =f(a)

a^2-a-6=a^2+3a-18

a^2-a^-a-3a= -18+6

-4a= - 12

a=3
