Buddhist monasteries had a lot of money, and didn’t have to pay taxes. Under the rule of the Tang Dynasty, the Buddhist monasteries were shut down and the money was used for war. Also, the ruler of the Tang Dynasty didn’t want foreign religions messing up Chinese way of thinking. Buddhism was considered foreign.
