Explanation:
have the number be represented by x
2/3s OF x (of means to mulitply); 3 INCREASED BY (increased by means to add); 1/2 OF x (again, of means to multiply)
so we can write the equation like this:
2/3x=3+1/2x
now we need to get x by itself
multiply both sides of the equation by 2/1 (the reciprocal of 1/2
2/3(2/1)=4/3 ; 1/2(2/1)=1
now our equation look like 4/3x=3
multiply both sides of the equation by 3/4 (the reciprocal of 4/3)
4/3(3/4)=1 ; 3(3/4)=9/4
x = 9/4 or 2¼
