The slope between (-5,1) and (4,4) is 1/3

Explanation:

When you're given 2 points and you must find the slope between those 2 points, you can find the distance between the y values and the x values.

For example in this case, the distance in our first y value is 3. So we know that y is always above x so we have 3/x so far.

Next to find the x values you do the exact same, and we get a distance of 9 from -5 to +4.

Now we have 3/9 which should be simplified to 1/3. When plotting this point, you'll use the strategy Rise over Run or Rise/Run.

(Side Note: Y is always above X so we know the Rise must be Y and the X must be Run.)

Y/X = Rise/Run
