Emily wants to make a scale drawing of her kitchen. Her kitchen is a rectangle with a length of 6m and a width of 2m. She decides on a scale of 1cm to 0.5m. If the kitchen door is 1.2m wide, how wide should the door be on the scale drawing? Be sure to include units

The scaled dimension on the drawing
= (Scale-factor)
* (Original dimension)

She decides to draw 1cm for the original length of 0.5m=50 cm.

For this, the scaled dimension on the drawing=1cm and

the original dimention=50 cm

So, the scale-factor = 1/50.

As the kitchen door is 1.2m wide, i.e the original width of the door is 120 cm.

So, the scaled width of the door is


120* (1)/(50)=2.4 cm.

Hence, on the drawing, the width of the kitchen door should be 2.4 cm.
