so first

4x + 8 -2x = 4x - 12

No exponents

no Multiplication

No division

Addition

So for this, we have to subtract the 4x on both sides to get

x + 8 - 2x = -12

then do -8

x - 2x = -20

then

-x = -20

x = 20
