The number of trout in America since 2000 is given by the following formula:

y=x^2+3x+2

"x" is the number of years and "y" is the number of trout in the millions.
Based on this formula, estimate the number of trout in the years 2005, 2010, and 2015.

Describe the trend in the number of trout as the years increase.

Answer:

  1. 42 million
  2. 132 million
  3. 272 million
  4. The number of trout inceases a lot each 5 years that pass.

Explanation:

Number of trout in 2005.

Find the number of years apart from 2000 to 2005.

2005 - 2000 = 5

Substitute for x and solve for y.

y = x² + 3x + 2

y = (5)² + 3(5) + 2

y = 25 + 15 + 2

y = 40 + 2

y = 42 million

Number of trout in 2010.

Find the number of years apart from 2000 to 2010.

2010 - 2000 = 10

Substitute for x and solve for y.

y = x² + 3x + 2

y = (10)² + 3(10) + 2

y = 100 + 30 + 2

y = 130 + 2

y = 132 million

Number if trout in 2015.

Find the number of years apart from 2000 to 2015.

2015 - 2000 = 15

Substitute for x and solve for y.

y = x² + 3x + 2

y = (15)² + 3(15) + 2

y = 225 + 45 + 2

y = 270 + 2

y = 272 million

Best of Luck!

Answer:

See below

Explanation:

Given formula

  • y = x² + 3x + 2
  • x- is the number of years after 2000,
  • y - is the number of trout

Year 2005, finding number of trout

  • x = (2005 - 2000) = 5
  • y = 5² + 3*5 + 2 = 42 millions

Year 2010, finding number of trout

  • x = (2010 - 2000) = 10
  • y = 10² + 3*10 + 2 = 132 millions

Year 2015, finding number of trout

  • x = (2015 - 2000) = 15
  • y = 15² + 3*15 + 2 = 272 millions

Number of trout is trending up with significant increase over yeas
