A job posting is searching for runway models to walk in a designer fashion show. The posting states that the preferred model should be no more than 2 inches away from being 5 feet 11 inches. Write and solve an absolute value inequality that can be used to determine the height range, in inches, of a preferred model. Graph the solution set on a number line.

Answer:

70 ≤ x ≤ 74

Explanation:

5 feet 11 inches = (5 x 12 inches) + 11 inches

= 72 inches

Since the preferred model should not be no more than 2 inches away from 72 inches, then;

72 inches ± 2 inches

Let the required height be represented by x, the absolute value inequality is;

lx ± 2l ≤ 72

x + 2 ≤ 72

x ≤ 72 - 2

x ≤ 70

Also,

x - 2 ≤ 72

x ≤ 72 + 2

x ≤ 74

Therefore, the preferred height range in inches is;

70 ≤ x ≤ 74

The graph is herewith attached to this answer.
