The total number of students is 6 if the tutor charges a total of $220

How to determine the total number of students

From the question, we have the following parameters that can be used in our computation:

Charges = $40 plus $30 for each student

This means that the function is

f(x) = 40 + 30x

Where

x is the number of students

Also, we have

Total charges = 220

This means that

40 + 30x = 220

So, we have

30x = 180

Divide by 30

x = 6

Hence, the total number of students is 6
