The play area in a local school is a rectangle that is 18’ x 40’ in size. The management about it to put a 4-foot side walk all around the building, leaving a 2-foot space for plants between the building and the sidewalk. Give the perimeter of the outer edge of the sidewalk and the area of the sidewalk itself?

Answer:

528 is the Area
148 is the Perimeter

Explanation:

We know that there is a 4 foot ring around the building so we add 8 feet to 18 x 40 which is 26 x 48.

To find the perimeter we take the Length and Height times 2 and then add that together.

26•2=52

48•2=96

52+96=148

148 is the Perimeter.

To find the area of the sidewalk.

We have to multiply the area together.

4•48=192•2=384

18•4=72•2=144

528

Add that together you have the area of the sidewalk
