A square poster is 14 inches on each side. How long is the diagonal to the nearest of an inch ?

Ok, so we have a square with sides of 14 inches. :)

The diagonal splits the square into two by the corners, so it forms two right triangles!

We can use the Pythagorean theorem on the right triangle to get:

14^2 + 14^2 = x^2

BTW, x is the length of the diagonal :)

So, 196 + 196 = x^2 = 392

Sooo, x is just the square root of 392 :)


√(392)\\ = 19.7989898732, which rounds to 20
