The owner of a business has two skilled employees who each earn $160 a day and 12 unskilled employees who each earn $56 a day. Find the average daily pay for the 14 employees.

If there is a set of data with n terms, then the average is the sum of their values divided by n

Average = sum of values of the n terms ÷ n

Let us solve the question using this rule

Two employees earn daily $160 each

∴ Their total earn = 2 × 160 = 320

Their total earn a day = $320

Twelve employees earn daily $56 each

∴ Their total earn = 12 × 56 = 672

Their total earn a day = $672

To find the average of the 14 employees, find their total earns and divide it by their number

∵ The total earn of 14 employees = 320 + 672 = 992

∵ They are 14 employees

∴ Their daily average = 992 ÷ 14 =
