Explanation:

Always start with the side that has more information. In this case it is the right side. 5x5 =25 so 6.4x5=y. 6.4x5= 32.

y=32

So now on the left side, replace y for 32. 8x4 =32 so 3x4= 12.

x=12

Explanation:

you do the second one first. cross multiply to get 5y=160 then divide by 5 on both sides to get y=32. fill in the y with 32 in the first equation, then cross multiply on that one too. you should get 8x=96. divide by 8 on both sides to get x=12. And there are your answers :)
