Can someone explain the transitive property?

if a=b and b=c, then a=c

Explanation:

Basically the transitive property states that is a number, a, equals another number, b, a = b, and the other number, b, equals a different number, c, b = c, then technically since a and b are equal, and b and c are equal, a could also equal c, a = c.
