6x - x^2 - 8 = 0

(-x^2 + 2.3x - 3^2 ) -1 = 0

( -x-3)^2 - 1= 0

(-x-3)^2 = -1

(-x-3)^2 = (-1)^2

-x - 3 = 1

x = 4
