Let's start with the first inequality
3x+2 > 5
3x > 5-2 ... subtract 5 from both sides
3x > 3
x > 3/3 ... divide both sides by 3
x > 1
Solve the other inequality for x as well
3x < 9
x < 9/3 ... divide both sides by 3
x < 3
The solutions we got were x > 1 and x < 3
This is the same as 1 < x and x < 3
We can combine those two getting 1 < x < 3
The graph of 1 < x < 3 consists of open holes at 1 and 3 with shading in between
Your answer choices don't quite match up so I'm assuming that one of the inequality signs should have "or equal to" as part of them. Please double check.
