C = top speed of cheetah

P = top speed of peregrine falcon

"The top speed of a peregrine falcon is 20 miles per hour less than three times the top speed of a cheetah"

So in short,

P = 3C - 20

Now if x was the top speed of the cheetah, then we replace C with x to get

P = 3x - 20
