Answer:

Length = 13 in.

Explanation:

perimeter of a rectangle (P) = 2L + 2W

where;

P = 42 in.

Length (L) = 5 + W

Width (W) = ?

Find:

length (L) of the rectangle

solution:

P = 2L + 2W

42 = 2(5 + W) + 2W

42 = 10 + 2W + 2W

42 - 10 = 4W

32 = 4W

W = 32/4

W = 8

Length (L) = 5 + W

= 5 + 8

= 13 in

P = 2(13) + 2(8)

= 42 in

Answer:

L-13 in, W-8 in

Explanation:

42 = 2x + 2(x+5)

42 = 2x +2x + 10

32 = 4x

8 = x

W = x W = 8

L = x + 5 L = 13

Perimeter = 8 + 8 + 13 + 13 = 42
