Answer:

200 tickets.

Explanation:

Set the equation. Let the variable t = tickets:

6t + 300 = 1500

To break down the equation:

6t → Remember, t is the variable denoting tickets. Each ticket costs $6, therefore, you multiply the amount of tickets (t) with the cost (6): 6t

300 → The choir had already sold $300 worth of tickets. This amount will not change.

1500 → The amount the choir needs to go to New York.

Solve. Note the equal sign, what you do to one side, you do to the other. Do the opposite of PEMDAS.

PEMADS is the order of operation, and equals:

Parenthesis

Exponents (& Roots)

Multiplication

Division

Addition

Subtraction

First, Subtract 300 from both sides:

6t + 300 = 1500

6t + 300 (-300) = 1500 (-300)

6t = 1500 - 300

6t = 1200

Next, divide 6 from both sides:

(6t)/6 = (1200)/6

t = 1200/6

t = 200

200 tickets more is your answer.
