Explanation:

3x + 5y = -9 ___(1)

y = 2x - 7

Substituting y's value in (1) ..

3x + 5( 2x - 7) = -9

3x + 10x -35 = -9

13x = -9 + 35

13x = 26

x = 26/13

x = 2
