Why are some solutes soluble in water and some solutes soluble in cyclohexane?

Answer:

Polar molecules can interact with the partial positive and partially negative part of polar solvents such water forming dipole dipole interactions and hence, can dissolve in water. Non-polar solute particles dissolve in non polar solvents such as cyclohexane through interactions such as Van Der Waals forces.
