Q. which supporting detail is most helpful in determining whether the author’s purpose is to inform, explain, persuade, inspire, or entertain?
You’ll never believe what happened last week at one of our casting calls. I was volunteering as a judge for a singing competition. We had asked for girls ages 8 to 13 who could sing. Well, after the first few adorable singers, things really got interesting. One of the “girls” was clearly a grown woman of at least 25. She belted out a teen pop song from 1998, and we had heard enough. We demanded that security remove her from the competition. Everyone was shocked when the woman angrily swung her purse at the security guard! Then, out flew her driver’s license, proving her to 28 years old! Once things calmed down, we all had a good laugh about this stranger event.
