5x + 4y = 24 (-4/5y + 24/5)

2x - 8y = 36 (4y + 18)

Explanation:

Add -4y to both sides 1) 5x + 4y (-4y) = 24 (-4b)

Divide both sides by 5 2) 5x/5 = -4y+24/5

3) x = -4/5y + 24/5

Add 8y to both sides 1) 2x - 8y (8y) = 36 (8y)

Divide both sides by 2 2) 2x/2 = (8y + 36)/2

3) 4y +18

Explanation:

It's a system of equations so you have to use elmination to get a varibale.

I elminiated the y by multipling 5x+4y=24 by 2 and combining the two equations.

So now we are on 12x= 84. solve

x=7

plug it back into any formula, I chose 2x-8y=36 and solve for y

and you get the answer, Voila!
