Answer:

Osteoclasts are responsible for resorbing, or breaking down, bone matrix. A balance between bone production and bone resorption is necessary for remodeling and renewing your skeleton. Osteocytes are mature osteoblasts that have become trapped within the very bone matrix they produced.
