why might a person who is being sued by someone who lives in another state demand that the case be tried in federal court? so they do it to get a more impartial hearing. also the state and federal might apply the law differently.

Answer:

Laws vary from state to state. The person that is suing another party may research into the law of the other state and find out that what they did may not be illegal under the other states jurisdiction. They may do further research into federal law, and discover that federally, the action is illegal. Thus resulting in a proper case to be brought up in court.
